A Lucky Break!

‘Mum, what are you doing with your trailer?’ The Lucky Horse Brew’s Journey So Far…

Lauren had the idea of starting a mobile coffee business - she had attended a couple of courses whilst working for The Potters Arms so is a barista and loves coffee. I lost my horse, Darcy, a while ago therefore my trailer has been lying idle but, never say never, I may get another horse one day. So started the process of us viewing suitable vehicles.

We viewed a few from Oxfordshire to Kent. Lauren’s absolute favourite was a bright blue 1989 converted camper van which Paul said would last until its next MOT before it would need throwing away! We eventually found the one we both loved in a cemetery in Beckenham.

We saw ‘Lucky’ on a Saturday morning in April. After making a quick decision that was the chosen one we then drove back down to Beckenham the next morning (a one and a half hour journey each way) to tow it back home for a lick of paint and some changes to the interior – and a new coffee machine as the one it came with had seen better days in its previous life, probably in a Costas.

With relevant council paperwork completed, hygiene training accomplished and insurance in place we were ready for our first day out to the common for our soft launch on Spring Bank Holiday Monday.

Subsequent outings have taken us to local school fayres and my favourite, Wormsley Estate for The National Schools Cricket Final. Sir Paul Getty built the cricket ground based on The Oval and were very lucky to be sited next to the mock-Tudor pavilion. What a fabulous view Lauren and I had from our office window that day looking across the perfect cricket field towards a wooded Chiltern ridge.

We now have a regular pitch at Beaconsfield Old Town market every Tuesday morning and we are at The Squirrel in Penn Street every Friday morning with future events booked in our diary.
