Chair's Chatter: Update from Lisa Plumridge

Welcome to our autumn edition of the Village News. I love this time of year, pulling out big jumpers, hats and scarves from the cupboard. The crisp bright days we’ve enjoyed over the past couple of weeks have felt like an added bonus between the showers!

Well, the biggest news of the summer was our Village Show, which was, as ever, a roaring success. There were some changes this year, not least to the Produce Show, which saw a new team and with them some reimagined categories, digital photos and more streamlined judging. It was great to see some new contenders alongside the long-standing favourites and we’re looking forward to seeing more developments and more competition next year.

We have to say a huge thank you everyone who gets involved in the organisation of the Show and to all of those who help on the day: we wouldn’t be able to do it without you. Special thanks to Hertfordshire House, our Show sponsors, Maxine Landsell of Chiltern Voice, who was our new compere, and Will Lee from Penn Estate, who supplied us with straw bales.

We rely very heavily on the generosity of local eateries for our Show raffle prizes - how lucky we are to be surrounded by such a variety of great places to eat. You can read more about all of those who supplied us with hampers, vouchers and other goodies on ps10-11 of the Village News.

The Macmillan Coffee Morning, which Ali Mahoney has been running for 24 years, was a jolly couple of hours catching up with old friends. October 12th’s scything of the bottom common and litter pick were both also deemed a success. Thank you to those who turned out to help. The only complaint we had was there was very little litter to be found! We’re aware that several villagers pick litter on their daily walks and remain grateful for your help. And finally the Potters Arms’ annual conker competition took place last weekend. Many of these stories were also covered in the Village News

You may have noticed that Fagnall Farm Barns have come alive with activity so we’ve been to talk to the various enterprises now located there, no fewer than seven of them.

Finally we have two new committee members to introduce: welcome to Di and Steve. There is still space for additional members and supporters to help us tackle the various initiatives we run so do get in touch if you’d like to get involved, even on a less formal basis.

Enjoy the rest of the year, Lisa
