Winchmore Hill Memorial Hall

Improvements and developments at the Memorial Hall have continued apace since the last Village News.

We have completed all new LED lighting, the new loos are receiving much praise from everyone, and the whole hall has been redecorated and new curtains hung - all this is in addition to the structural repairs that we have had to make, and the safety-related issues that have caused concern.

Last month we installed fifty new, and very smart, seats.   I am delighted to say that this considerable expenditure has been made possible by a lot of very hard work by the committee, in running the hall bookings, keeping running and repair costs to the most effective minimum, scrupulous control of our accounts, and obtaining sponsorship and grants from a variety of sources.  I must give thanks to AlignJV who provided a grant which contributed about 45% of the costs of the new loos.   They also provided the impetus for us to raise the additional funds for this project.   All of this has been achieved without dipping into our modest reserves.    I would thank everyone who has supported the Memorial Hall.

We have plans for the future, including a cool space for the Village if this extreme weather is likely to become the norm, and we are talking to the Residents Association to make the most of this proposal.

We are also examining the possibility of providing work space for residents who work remotely, but who find that having a support network and facilities in the village will be beneficial.   More of this in due course.

Another area where the Memorial Hall could provide additional resources for the Village is a regular TECH day, where residents can come along with problems with their phones, or lap tops, and get help in problem solving.   We recently had one resident complaining that our improved wi-fi in the Hall did not work, but with guidance, they could connect easily.  Is this a wide spread issue??

We do need your help if we are to take the Memorial Hall forward into the 2030’s and beyond, on a sound financial and structural footing.

We are urgently in need of a Treasurer for the Hall.  Richard has done a superb job for us for nearly 4 years and has simplified the management accounts and has ensured that we make the most of our modest reserves.  If you would be willing to spend a few minutes a week keeping our accounts in order, PLEASE contact myself or anyone on the Committee.   Richard will be happy to provide a very gentle induction and will work alongside you whilst you find your feet.
